11 December 2009
Activa Media ended our final community service project for 2009 with a visit to Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home at 450 Thomson Rd.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the cheery old folks, gathering at the event hall. We had a good time communicating with the residents of the home who mainly spoke dialect with the ice broken fairly quickly. The old folks really appreciated the goodie bags comprising mainly food stuff and a chance to speak with us as they missed their own children and grandchildren.
After the interaction, it was time for the next activity – Karaoke performances by our very own team. We tried our best to complete all the Cantonese, Hokkien and Mandarin songs, though not completely fluent with the languages, but all the grandpas and grandmas laughed anyway as they sang along with us. A couple of them even intiated dances with our special guests for the day, God of Fortune and Little Fairy.
All too soon, it was time to leave. After a polaroid taking session where the old folks can keep the photos, we hugged most of them and bade them goodbye, much to their reluctance.
Altogether, it was a touching experience to serve the old folks. It reminded us of why we should always love and care for the elderly, because they need us.
